Last September, we started out in our first season in the Stockport Metro League, we were put in Division 2 but had no idea about the sides who were with us in the same division.
Our first game away v Bramhall was a disaster, our first full game on grass, and three key players missing, which left us very light in the middle. We regrouped after that and went on to win the next nine matches in the league!
This showed us what great team spirit we had and how strong we can be. With just a squad of 14 but really only thirteen to select each week due to Jimmy's long road to recovery, we think our performaces were excellent. The division had a lot aof good teams, however, we played some terrfic football and overcame many challenges.
The season went to the wire, to win the Division outright, we had to win out two remaining matches, away at Whaley and home to Bramhall. The game at Whaley was fast paced on a very small pitch, we played well and pressed throughout, but we just could not get the one goal we needed, the game ended 0-0 but the point was required.
On the final game, we had to win against Bramall, we went ahead but then conceded, with the match balanced at 1-1 we kept pushing. We received a free-kick just outside the Bramhall area, the ball went in, and we won the game.
We finished joint top with Bollington, both teams finished on 40 points. The league does not use goal difference, so both teams received a trophy each at the recent presentation day at te Plaza theatre.
A great season overall, and a good start to 11v11, now we build on the success and push on when the next campaign starts in September.
We are all proud of the boys and we know they are up for the challenge.
